Sandlot Sports Camp 2008

013_13_small

This is our popular sports performance camp. The mission of the camp is to teach the kids how to become more athletic. We work on running, change of direction, shuffling, jumping, landing, strength, balance and coordination.

For grades 1 and 2, we play physical education games that emphasize movement, exploration, and creativity. The campers in this group participate in games and activities like Poison Rope, Steal the Bacon, Stop & Go, Kickball, Dodgebowl and more. They also are introduced to skills for soccer and basketball.

For campers in grades 3-8 we use lots of "toys" such as giant rubber bands, ladders, hurdles, obstacle courses, and more! It's hard work but it's fun and it definitely pays off!

Today, youth sports are very organized and structured. There is a bigger emphasis on competition and winning at a much earlier age. This camp seems to be so popular with the kids because, although we teach them some very cool athletic skills, we remember to let them be kids and just play with their coaches and friends. The afternoon is filled with basketball, powerball, soccer and dodgeball. Kids cool off on the waterslides and have ice-pops at the end of the day.
