Coach Mike Looney started out ten years ago to help "teach" kids how to move properly while playing sports. Three years ago, the first Sandlot Sports Summer Camp was held with 35 campers. Last year, the camp helped more than 300 campers improve their athletic abilities. The camp philosophy is simple. The kids learn valuable athletic development skills each week. We teach them how to run, jump, stop, and change direction. They're given feedback, attention, and time to practice these skills. Then they play sports like we did in the old days. Basketball, soccer, flag football and more. After that, we hit the waterslides, play some dodgeball or powerball, and have an ice-pop. It's sort of like being in your backyard with a hundred friends over.
